Septoplasty is an operation designed to remove the deviated portion of the nasal septum. This operation is performed for patients with nasal airway obstruction, who are unable to move air through their nose. The septum pictured above is the load-bearing portion of the septum (also known as the “L” strut) that usually remains following removal of the twisted and deviated portion. This particular septum required complete removal and reconstruction before being placed back into the nose. This is known as Extracorporeal Septoplasty.
